Description: "Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress is read by each succeeding generation and still remains a classic in its own right. In this book, the well-known stories—Christian's Fight with Apollyon, Captives in Doubting Castle, The Celestial City, and others—are delightfully re-told. The Gospel theme is kept well to the fore, and it is believed that these stories will not only help children to an understanding of their deeper meaning, but also inspire them to read this wonderful allegory in its complete form when they are older."
Illustrated with 9 exquisite colour plates (including a frontispiece), plus a lovely b&w sketch of the Mayflower on the pastedowns and endpapers.
'Stressed' turquoise matt boards with black text on front and spine, plus tooled black illustration of the Mayflower on front cover. Spine and corners lightly bumped. Unclipped (3/- NET) dust jacket is in good overall condition for its age – rubbed and scuffed along its extremities, but loss-free. The pages are in superb condition: crisp, unmarked, tightly bound, and completely free from foxing. They even have appeared to resist tanning – remarkable for a 50 year old book! Neat gift inscription in blue ink on half-title states the book was presented to the previous owner by their friend from the Church Army Mission in 1963.
