Lovely full-page, colour illustrations grace every other page – including one depicting a wonderfully nostalgic '60s kitchen scene, complete with PG Tips and Heinz Tomato Soup! Interestingly, most of the illustrations have been 'updated' for the '80s in this edition. Peter has some rather more colourful swimming trunks, whilst Jane has been made prettier and is sporting a new hairstyle (having lost that '60s hairband). Both children have also had their wardrobes updated.

On the whole, pages are in excellent condition: crease-free with no foxing or other markings whatsoever – though a handful have some minor marks. The covers are in good condition, but are quite heavily rubbed along the edges. There is also a minor mark on the front cover and a small (2 mm/0.08″) dent on the right hand side of the front and rear boards (refer to image). As is the case with most matt board Ladybirds, the head and tail of the spine and the corners have been bumped. Binding is very tight.
