Description: On a winter's day in 1885, 14-year-old Brosus and his sister Margita (one year his junior) left their grandparents' remote Swedish home and went out into the world in search of their mother – a haircraft woman who had disappeared on one of her journeys. The trail led them to London and thence on a long walk through the Cotswolds, where they were helped by farmers, shepherds and policemen, and met with all sorts of hardships and adventures… An enthralling children's story written against an authentic background.
Illustrated throughout with lovely b&w sketches – several of which are full-page.
Ultramarine cloth boards with gilt text on spine and a gilded illustration of a lamp-post. Jacket scuffed at head of spine. Small, closed tear at top (refer to image). Minor foxing and scratch on rear plus a square, sticky mark from where an adhesive label once lived. Unclipped: bears original price of 15s. net. ffep and rfep lightly foxed.
