Description: "Although his war-lords cried for blood, King Alfred believed that mercy was more effective and allowed Guthorm and his defeated Vikings to go free. But Guthrom returned with a treacherous plot to kill the King. For a while he thought he had succeeded – until he heard rumours of an unknown Marsh King gathering Saxon forces for a final and devastating attack."
Illustrated with several, excellent b&w drawings – all of which are full-page – plus a superb, double-spread map.
Covers have been laminated by the previous owner – making them extremely well preserved. Pages lightly tanned – to be expected in a 41 year old paperback – but are in otherwise excellent condition: completely unmarked, free from foxing, and very tightly bound. There is, however, a small loss in the upper-right corner of page 125.
Measures 18 cm × 11 cm (7.2″ × 4.4″). 12mo. 234 pp. + 4 page catalogue of other titles by the publisher and blank application form for Puffin Club membership.
