Description: Céline Leopold's adaptation of this famous Slavic fairy tale is based on Ivan Bilibin's Василиса Прекрасная (Vasilisa the Beautiful), although Leopold has chosen to alter the spelling of her heroine's name to 'Wassilisa' in this scarce edition.
Illustrated throughout with excellent 4-colour paintings.
Laminated pictorial boards are lightly soiled at the front (refer to image). At some point in its life, the book was used as a rest by its previous owner, as a few random numbers have become impressed onto the front cover, where the pressure of the pen went through the paper (visible only under direct light). Spine and corners are bumped. Withdrawal and inventory stamps are present on the ffep, alongside the purchase price in red felt-tip, and the remains of the lending record. The remains of the ticket holder are present on the front pastedown. A further stamp, with date of acquisition, is present on the first page of the story. Otherwise all pages are unmarked, and completely free from foxing or tanning (largely thanks to the glossy nature of the paper they were printed on). They are, however, creased from handling, and there is a negligible loss to the upper-right corner of the final page.
Measures 25.5 cm × 19.5 cm (10.2″ × 7.8″). 4to. Unpaginated.
