Author: Miss Read Illustrator: J. S. Goodall Year: 1966 (First Edition) Binding: Hardback Publisher: Michael Joseph Ltd. Remarks: Price-clipped Book Condition: Near Excellent Jacket Condition: Very Good
Description:
In spite of the fast-changing modern world, the values of the older people in Fairacre village
remain stable, and the arrival of a long-haired, feckless young mother who smokes can still
arouse shocked disapproval in the community.
In this charming tale, the author shows how differences of age, temperament, and way of life can be broken down and seen to be irrelevant in the miracle of a Christmas birth. Contains numerous evocative b&w illustrations. Illustrated endpapers and pastedowns. Grey, wood effect cloth boards. Blue cloth spine with gilded text. The jacket has been clipped and has some light rubbing near its extremities. Two closed tears at the rear and a small rust coloured stain. Other than that, the jacket is in very good condition. The book itself is in superb condition: tightly bound pages are crisp and haven't a speck of foxing to speak of. There is a gift inscription dated 1967 on the ffep. Measures 20 cm × 13.5 cm (8″ × 5.4″). 8vo. 51 pp. Price: £34.00 |
