Description:
A very scarce, pocket-sized book from the Things Seen series, focusing on the French and
Italian Riviera. Unusually for a guide book, it is written in the form of a first-person
narrative, thus giving the whole work a story-like quality, transporting the reader to the
towns and cities Capt. Richardson describes.
Includes many plates with high-quality b&w photographs. Front pastedown and endpaper contain monochrome maps of the Riviera, whilst the rear pastedown and endpaper feature a "Calendar For Readers Who Intend To Go Abroad" which details the best times to visit certain towns, cities, regions, &c. The jacket is in good condition overall and the illustration on the front is a tipped-in photograph. There is some scuffing and minor tears to the front (see image), and the only major caveat is a triangular loss near the spine measuring 4 cm (1.6") across. The flaps are in excellent condition and haven't been price-clipped (original price of 6s. nett). The book itself is in excellent condition, and the pages are free from foxing or marking (apart from some light foxing along the tips). Binding is very tight. Measures 10.5 cm × 15 cm (4.2" × 6"). 16mo. 158 pp. + 2 pp. detailing other books by the publisher. Price: £18.00 |
