Ambrus Year: 1982 (First Edition) Binding: Hardback Publisher: The Hamlyn Publishing Group Limited SBN: 600366812 ISBN: 0600366812 Remarks: 1st Hamlyn edition Book Condition: Good/Very Good Jacket Condition: No Jacket
Description:
An ultra-rare book whose title could well have been Hamlyn Encyclopædia of Legendary
Creatures such is the wealth of information provided within. Virtually all mythical
beasts and beings from across the world are covered within this book, though as the author
himself has pointed out, many have been omitted as their numbers would run into the thousands.
Entries are presented alphabetically, and range from the common (e.g. centaur, dragon, fairy,
leprechaun, &c.) to the obscure – boggart, clurican, rusalka, &c. Since the book was
produced for the U.S. market, all text is in American English.
Illustrated throughout with Ambrus' excellent – occasionally humorous, other times spine-chilling – paintings. Glazed pictorial boards have minor wear; the worst of which is some creasing extending from the top edge of the front cover (refer to image). Spine and upper corners bumped and rubbed; slight damage to head of the former. Internally, the book's condition borders on excellent. One or two pages are lightly creased from handling, but all others are crisp, clean and very tightly bound. Pages are completely free from foxing or tanning, except for the rep, which has a hint of the former. No lover of fantasy or folklore should be without this book! Measures 28.5 cm × 23.5 cm (11.4″ × 9.4″). Oversize 4to. 62 pp. (SOLD) |
