Description:
"[This] is the story of the most famous early settlers of America. In 1620, these
brave people left England to start a new life in an unknown land. The author
describes their harrowing voyage across the Atlantic, their first terrible winter in
New England, and the survivors' celebration of their triumph over the wilderness
with America's first Thanksgiving."
The large text and engaging prose make this book an ideal introduction to the colonisation of America for younger readers. Superb, three-colour monochrome illustrations – virtually all of which are full-page – bring the book to life. Pictorial cloth boards are substantially rubbed, with some minor soiling to the rear. The tiniest amount of foxing is present on the front pastedown and endpaper, and there are some negligible smudges at the foot of some of the pages. Very neat and discreet inscription in red ballpoint on the final page appears to be the date of acquisition. Otherwise, apart from very light tanning, the pages are in excellent condition: crisp, bright, and very tightly bound. Measures 21 cm × 16.5 cm (8.4″ × 6.5″). 8vo. 86 pp. Price: £12.00 |
