Description:
Charming book packed with humorous, full-page illustrations. Unlike conventional dictionaries,
entries aren't listed in alphabetical order. Instead, there are 51 sections (one to a page)
covering such aspects as 'the farm', 'the town', 'on the road', &c. Each section's illustration
is annotated with numbers. Children then look up the name of the object in the numbered list on
that page. There is also an index in which all 840 words are listed alphabetically with a
reference to the page and where they appear in the illustration (e.g. 'teacher 9/2' means
that the picture of the teacher is on page 9 and is labelled with the number 2).
The book has been subjected to considerable handling. Many pages are creased, but are free from markings. The spine has several nicks and is damaged near the tail. Nevertheless, all pages remain in place and show no intention of parting company with the binding.
Rare to find a copy from this year, hence price.
