Exquisite, full-page colour illustrations grace every facing page. Pastedowns and endpapers feature an excellent b&w sketch of the Three Magi crossing the desert.
Matt pictorial boards. Covers have been scribbled on in wax crayon and ballpoint. Spine and corners bumped and worn. Neat gift inscription in ballpoint on title page. The illustration on p. 13 has some minor doodling at its foot in ballpoint. Light foxing on fep and title page; all other pages are foxing-free and unmarked. p. 50 is creased. ¾ of the binding is super-tight.
Year of publication is given as 1961, but this reprint dates from c.1965 (the first year in which Ladybirds were issued without jackets).
